4 DSST teachers honored by Denver Broncos, Colorado Avalanches as MVTs

Written by DSST Public Schools | 05/25/22

We know DSST is filled with top-tier teachers who love our students and want the best for their education and life, but it is always nice when others outside the network recognize our wonderful educators.

Recently, four of our teachers were honored by the Colorado Avalanches and the Denver Broncos.

Katie Hickey from DSST: Byers high school was one of six teachers who received the Avs Most Valuable Teacher (MVT) award in recognition of her dedication to empower students in the community. Each award winner received a $1,000 classroom improvement grant, a classroom celebration hosted by Avalanche celebrities, four tickets to a game, recognition at a game, dinner at Ball Arena, an Avalanche gift bag, and tickets for their students.

Three other teachers were honored as Denver Broncos MVTs (Most Valuable Teachers), including Andre Felix, PE teacher at DSST: Cole Middle School, David Carpenter, Math teacher at DSST: Conservatory Green Middle School and Michael Vess, Center Program Lead at DSST: Conservatory Green Middle School.

They were among 10 teachers selected as the Spring 2022 honorees after being nominated by fellow coworkers for being a "game-changing" teacher who goes the extra yard to educate and inspire.

Congratulations to all of you for your outstanding work in making sure our students get the best education and school experience possible. Your work is being recognized not just by those around you who nominated you for these recognitions, but by the kids and community you impact every day.

Thank you to all of our teachers and staff at DSST for giving your best effort event when things feel incredibly difficult and impossible. We appreciate each of you and the work you are doing.
