Four years ago, Jim and Teresa Berryman launched the Ariel Berryman Memorial Scholarship Fund after the loss of their daughter, Ariel. Ariel’s passion for helping others reach their full potential inspired the creation of this scholarship. Each year, the Ariel Berryman Memorial Scholarship Fund provides a female senior graduating from DSST Public Schools with a scholarship to attend the University of Colorado Denver (CU Denver). This fund is matched dollar-for-dollar by CU Denver.
The 2020 Ariel Berryman Memorial Scholarship is available to support one DSST female high school student for college in academic year 2020-2021. The Ariel Berryman Memorial Scholarship endowment earnings will provide up to $2,000 per academic year to each recipient with a matching amount from CU Denver. Recipients will be eligible for the scholarship for up to four years and must meet the following requirements:
The scholarship has made an impact on so many DSST students. Here is just one testimonial from 2018 DSST: GVR HS graduate Alexandra Carranza-Saucedo.
"The Ariel Berryman Scholarship has enabled me to be the first person in my family to attend college and pursue my dream of improving my life and those lives I touch. My sophomore year, I had to evaluate how I can be more successful in school and determined that I don’t need to take 18 credits a semester. I am taking 14 credits this semester, and my grades have soared. I am also learning how to advocate for myself, be involved in the community at large, and give back to DSST"
Deadline to apply is March 1, 2020.
