DPS Daycare and Reimbursement Process

Written by DSST Public Schools | 07/31/20

As you saw in my email on Monday, DPS recently announced its plans to provide child care for district and charter teachers and other school-based staff between August 17-September 4.

In case you missed it, you can find the details below.

Important things to know:

  • DPS expects these slots to fill quickly.  We strongly recommend registering right away on Monday, August 3rd to maximize your chances of getting a spot.
  • There are no DSST schools being used as sites.
  • You must create an account in order to register, which will require a little extra time.  The DPS Commons website also includes this guidance on required information for registration:

Please note that your registration process can take up to 20 minutes. All of these programs are Licensed by the State of Colorado and a significant amount of information is required, including doctor phone number and address, dentist phone number and address, hospital phone number and address, and address and phone number for two emergency contacts outside of the home who are authorized to pick up your child. Please have this information ready.

  • We’ve been told there is a possibility that child care may be extended now that DPS has announced that remote learning will continue until at least October, but no decision has been made. It is likely that the cost would increase if it is extended.
  • DSST has no role in the registration process or how slots are determined.
  • DSST has no ability to influence the quality of care provided.

Additionally, DSST is committed to partially subsidizing care costs for families who participate in DPS’ daycare offering. We know that remote learning and closed care centers are posing real challenges for our staff with school-aged children, and want to help shoulder some of this burden. While you will see that DPS will bill participating staff $12.50 per day, DSST will reimburse you up to 20% of your total cost. You’ll find specific instructions on how to submit for reimbursement here.

Finally, and as a reminder, if you are interested in being part of a Caregiver Focus group, please complete this form so that we can be directly in touch with you - we are looking forward to starting these conversations next week.

I hope this information is helpful to you!

Christine
