Four DSST high schools earned recognition on the 2018 U.S News & World Report’s list of “Best High Schools in America,” including two which were included among the top 20 schools in Colorado. The magazine ranked DSST: Stapleton High School as the No. 2 school in Colorado while DSST: GVR was No. 15 in the rankings. DSST: College View and DSST: Cole both earned Bronze Medals. High schools were ranked based on the following criteria:
- Better-than-expected overall student performance on state-required assessments.
- Better-than-average disadvantaged student performance on state-required assessments.
- Overall graduation rate must meet or exceed the national high school graduation rate.
- How well schools prepare students for college as measured by their Advanced Placement participation rate and how well the students did on those tests.
The magazine compiled data on 20,000 public high schools across America, and the top 500 (which included DSST: Stapleton and DSST: GVR) earned Gold Medals.
