Recently, 89 DSST seniors earned the Seal of Biliteracy, a nationally recognized award that certifies a student has attained proficiency in two or more languages.
In an increasingly global world, knowing a second language puts students at an advantage when it comes to college admissions and future job opportunities.
Of the DSST students who earned the seal, 27 are from Cole, 36 from GVR, and 26 from Stapleton. Last year, only 15 total students from DSST were recognized. The Seal is noted on student transcripts and diplomas and is a way for college admissions offices or future employers to confirm their language skills.

Most of the seniors earned recognition for proficiency in Spanish and English, but two also earned their seal for Mandarin Chinese.
To earn the Seal of Biliteracy, students must earn certain scores at least one criteria, such as Advanced Placement tests or the SAT, for English and the second language.
The seniors will be honored during a reception from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, at East High School where they will receive a special cord to wear during graduation ceremonies certifying their accomplishment.
