A recent poll found that the thing people have been missing the most during quarantine is not happy hour with friends, their favorite fitness class, or spending time with their family. It’s been Pet of the Week! 😉
We are so excited to feature Precious, an 8 month old American Staffordshire Terrier (Pitbull adjacent) who belongs to Carlo Depena, Spanish teacher at Cole HS.
As many of you may already know, Pitbulls are illegal in Denver, and American Staffordshire Terriers are included in this ban. However, Precious is no outlaw- she is a service dog! Carlo’s girlfriend suffers from Panic Disorder Syndrome, and Precious helps prevent her going into a full blown panic attack by laying on her lap or demanding to be pet. As service dogs fall under the Americans with Disabilities Act, Precious is exempt from the breed restriction at this time.
Precious’s mom was found as a stray by Carlo’s friend, who soon realized that she was pregnant! All 9 puppies were born in Denver, and Carlo & his girlfriend offered to help by adopting one.
Some of Precious’s favorite pastimes are fighting with brooms or other cleaning supplies, long walks through the dog park (where she tries to leave with the other dogs), and zooming through the snow in their yard.
Precious is a dog of many talents and interests, and has dressed up as a rabbit and a princess.
Precious also loves to watch tv, and her favorite shows involve other animals or sports, but she particularly gets sucked into Pit Bulls and Parolees.
