The Human Capital team has received some urgent questions about our new benefits and our update time-off system. Please review the information below and do not hesitate to reach out to humanresources@scienceandtech.org with any questions or concerns.
Updated Time-off System:
- In alignment with new CO laws, DSST has made some changes to its time-off systems. Despite a few system changes, all school-year team members still get 56 hours of time-off and all year-round team members will still receive 96 hours of time-off. Additionally, our policy for providing two-weeks notice for all non-emergency absences and how to request that time off has not changed. The following system changes were made:
- Personal/vacation time will be called “Non-HFWA” time & will be accrued. Team members will receive 1 hour per every 30 hours worked. Team members can still use time prior to it being accrued but understand that you will have a negative balance which will automatically resolve once you accrue the time.
- Sick time will be called “HFWA time” which aligns to the new Colorado Healthy Families Workplace Act. Team members will get 48 hours annually given out at the start of each school year. Please be advised that this time cannot be carried over to the next year.
- For questions, please reach out to humanresources@scienceandtech.org. You can also refer to the updated DSST handbook, which contains detailed information on our time-off policies & systems. This resource will be published on our Helix website and sent to all employees to sign via Workday later this month.
New DSST Benefits:
In order to provide team members with high-quality and low-cost benefits aligned to our values, DSST left Aetna’s insurance and moved to a self-funded plan on July 1. Based on feedback from team members, we continue to use Aetna’s network of doctors in order to keep doctors as consistent as possible for our people and their families. For all benefit information and support, all team members (and their dependents) should use our new HealthJoy mobile app! Please review the information below about HealthJoy and other exciting new benefits!

They will work with your local oncologist to make sure all treatment options are considered, not just local ones. Participation in the CancerCare program is not required, however, participants in the program could have reduced costs (DSST will waive all coinsurance and copays once your annual deductible is met for the remainder of the calendar year).
