Pet of the Week: Frank with 1 Blue Eye

Written by Stefanie Gilary | 04/07/21

Big dogs are having a moment on Pet of the Week lately, including some young but rapidly growing pets like Ziggy the Bernese Mountain Dog and Duke the Bernedoodle! This week, we’re honored to feature another big guy: Frank, a former foster pet who schemed his way into a permanent residence at Emily Lafferandre’s home.

Emily and Frank, lap dog in his own mind.

As Senior Grants Manager, Emily works every day to submit competitive grants on behalf of our schools and network. In countless grant applications, she shares the awesome things that happen across the network and secures more resources to further our collective mission.  She is instrumental in securing major gifts including the recently awarded Harvey Family Foundation grant for DSST’s Apprentice Teacher Program. This grant will fund all Apprentice Teachers across our network- up to 30 Apprentice Teachers!

Emily has been fostering dogs for the past two years through PawsCo, many sweet, many neurotic. Frank, named after Frank Sinatra from his one blue eye, was just one of the many foster dogs who pranced through Emily’s home. Until, after a month and a half on his best behavior, Emily decided to adopt him. And then, just as the ink dried, he began to show his true colors as a sweet but naughty dog.

"It's paw-ty time!"

Most recently, Frank decided to snack on a cactus, knocking it over and making a complete mess on the couch.

“We’ve all done crazy things when hungry, who are you to judge?”

He also loves cantaloupe, which Emily discovered when she came home one day and saw that Frank had wrestled a whole melon off the kitchen counter and then attacked it to get the delicious fruit inside. Luckily, cantaloupe is not toxic to dogs!

“I need some of that orange deliciousness before working out please!”

But Frank makes up for his brief naughty episodes tenfold by being sweet and snuggly.

You know you love me  💖

He also enjoys long car rides, and has made the 15 hour ride back to Emily’s hometown of Houston twice now! When he’s home in Denver, he loves to play with his best friend Mac who lives just a couple blocks away with Emily’s friend. You can also find him on the couch.
