You may already know that School Choice Round 1 kicked off last week on January 15, and will run through February 18 (February 28 in Aurora). During these 4 weeks, the Home Office and schools are focused on student recruitment as a priority and kicking it into overdrive to make sure that all of our schools are fully enrolled, which secures the essential funding that we need to keep our doors open. This ranges from door knocking, phone calls, attending expos, open houses, and much more. 

Yunuen Cisneros is the Student Recruitment Coordinator for Aurora Science & Tech, and is a pro at getting everyone excited about becoming an Owl, especially her Australian Shepherd named Manolo.

Yunuen’s family knows that Manolo always rides shotgun

Yunuen’s family loves Australian Shepherds for their winning personality and intelligence. After their first Aussie named Coffee passed away, Manolo joined their family in October 2015. Manolo was born in Elizabeth, Colorado, and his dad is from Germany. He does not speak German, but he is bilingual, and understands both English and Spanish! 

Manolo has two siblings- Bebecito, a grumpy old Maltipoo, and Camila, and shelter pup who has asserted herself as the boss of the entire family.   

“Hey jefa… pass me the toy for a minute?”

Manolo also has two human sisters, Nina and Yunuen. Those of you at CV MS may already know her, as she joined the team this year working as a para.

Even with all of the great company, Manolo is always looking for more attention. If either of the Yunuens are working on their laptops, he’ll close it with his paw and demand a good belly scratch.

“Hey there… don’t you think it’s time for a break?”

Manolo has quite an appetite, and will eat anything he can steal! But, he does have a sensitive stomach, so they have to be careful.

Manolo especially loves strawberries

The voracious Manolo has even chewed off the handle of his beloved jolly ball! One time, he got in trouble for chewing something he shouldn’t have, and to save himself, he disappeared like a ghost behind a curtain.

You can catch Yunuen and Manolo walking through Aurora, knocking on doors and recruiting new Owls to join Aurora Science & Tech in their brand new school on the CU Anschutz campus in August 2020!
