While dogs across the city have been enjoying some fresh powder and frolics in the snow after last week’s storm, let’s take a moment to recognize the cats snuggled up at home and thriving- we see you! One of them is Rikia, Riri for short, the one year old kitty of Denise Williams, a 6th grade math teacher at Conservatory Green MS.
Denise adopted Riri (pronounced “ree-ree”) from Petsmart in Northglenn. Before she found her happy home, Riri had roamed between several different shelters. She was placed in a Denver shelter in October and had kittens, then in December was moved again, where she was spayed and got her shots, and finally arrived at Petsmart where destiny brought the two new friends together.
Riri loves to people watch, and will wake Denise up early on the weekends so that she can open the blinds for her and check on the action outside. Always looking for new friends, she eagerly greets newcomers with welcoming meows, purrs, and kind requests to be petted.
When she’s not gazing outside and making new friends, Riri likes to recharge with a good nap.
Like many of our pets, Riri has enjoyed the extra quality time at home that remote work has allowed. She particularly enjoys walking across Denise’s screen during meetings and teaching, and her 6th graders always enjoy the guest appearance.
Riri is banned from human foods, however she likes to sip water out of Denise’s mug when she’s not paying attention. It’s important to stay hydrated, because sometimes she even gets the opportunity for a walk outside!
Lately it’s been a bit too cold and snowy for outdoor strolls- she’ll be leaving that for the dogs until springtime!
