Pet of the Week: Ziggy the Bernese Mountain Dog

Written by Stefanie Gilary | 03/18/21

Last week, we had the pleasure of meeting cuddly Duke the Bernedoodle, which was a nice way to transition us into this week’s feted pet, Ziggy, a young Bernese Mountain Dog.

100% Bernese Mountain Dog and 100% handsome

Ziggy is the beloved pet of Heather Lamm, Chief Advocacy & Communications Officer and fearless leader of the Marketing, Advocacy, and Communications team at the Home Office. Just one facet of her role is ensuring that all of our schools are fully enrolled, securing the important funding and resources that help our school communities thrive.

Heather and her family picked Ziggy up in September from a couple in Angel Fire, New Mexico. While not the brightest of breeds, they are great family dogs, and Ziggy is actually the fourth Bernese Mountain Dog they have gotten from this couple!  At just 7 months old, this late-stage pandemic pup is still growing (fast) into his full size of 100 lbs.

For a brief moment, baby Ziggy enjoyed hanging out under the couch

Ziggy got his name after a lengthy debate amongst Heather’s three kids- the contenders were Carlos, Pablo, Ferdinand, and Luca. Democracy can be a real hindrance to decision-making, so Heather instated a temporary mom-ocracy at the house and named him Ziggy. At first, no one liked it, but now everyone is on board.

Ziggy is lucky to have a mom, dad, and three human siblings, as he is rarely left alone and cannot bear the torture of solitude.  He’ll let everyone know his displeasure by barking loudly at the glass door.

Where do you think you’re going? Love me!!

Ziggy has many neighborhood friends, including his feline sister Stella, his good friend Waffles, and his betrothed, Ophelia.

Tessa recently announced Ziggy and Ophelia’s engagement… save the dates are in the mail

Ziggy likes to play sous chef, and will keep watch by the stove to make sure nothing burns.

“Everything’s looking absolutely delicious, chef!”

Ziggy also loves to snuggle and has earned the nickname of the Snuggle Bus. And just like most Denver dogs living their best lives this week, Ziggy loves the snow.

Snooooaawooooooooh!!
