As we prepare to Turn Out and Turn Up for Noel High School at next week’s DPS board meeting, we thought it would be fitting to highlight some of the people and pets that make DSST Middle School @ Noel extraordinary.
Samantha Hakes is a 7th grade Integrated Literacy Teacher at Noel, and her husband, Patrick McCay, teaches 6th grade writing at College View MS! Together, they are the proud parents of two Labradors, Lily and Max.
Samantha and Patrick rescued Max, the 11 year old yellow lab, when he was 8. While he’s 100 pounds, he’s quite a snuggly fellow and convinced that he’s a lapdog. Lily is a rambunctious 2 year old chocolate lab that they got from a farm in Maryland at just 5 months old. Even when she was just a little pup, her paws were enormous, which they nicknamed MBPs, or meatball paws.
Still a puppy, Lily is easily excitable, and Max isn’t always amused. Running over and barking at her until she calms down, he is the resident “fun police”.
Max makes sure that Lily stays on her best behavior for Santa
While distinguished gentleman Max often ignores his younger sister, Samantha and her husband sometimes finds the two of them sleeping next to, or on, each other!
When the two labs aren’t home sleeping and enjoying their favorite human treats of peanut butter, ice cream, and chimkin (English translation: chicken), they’re out and about enjoying the fresh Colorado air!
Lily is an avid swimmer, and will run into the water at the Cherry Creek dog park, rain, snow, or shine!
Lily and Max and the rest of their Bulldog buddies hope you will be able to join us at the DPS Board Meeting on January 23 to show your support for DSST High School @ Noel. RSVP today!
