PROJECT: CREATE- STEAM Contests for DSST & Colorado Students

Written by DSST Public Schools | 04/14/20

DSST Team,

We need your help! It’s only Week 2 of DSST E-School, but we are fully embracing all of the opportunities that distance learning can bring. I am so excited to share a new initiative that we are launching to help engage the creativity and imagination of our students! In partnership with Denver CBS4- we are kicking off  Project: Create tomorrow.  K-12 students from across Colorado are invited to participate in this weekly STEAM challenge, and we need your help in spreading the word and encouraging students to participate.

Project: Create Overview

  • DSST will present 2 weekly STEAM-focused challenges, in partnership with leading Denver institutions, providing students with creative and fun learning opportunities to supplement their online learning. This week’s challenge features the theme “Imagined Spaces”- you can learn more about this week’s challenge here.
  • CBS 4 - Denver will announce each weekly challenge, invite K-12 students across Colorado to participate, and celebrate the winner each week
  • Each challenge will include prizes provided by our weekly sponsor. This week, our sponsor is the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, who have generously provided this week’s prize- a VIP museum tour!
  • A select group of DSST educators will review all entries to determine a winner- the winners will then be celebrated on CBS4, social media, and beyond!

How You Can Help

  • Please encourage each of your students to participate in this incredible opportunity to show off their creativity, be on TV, and win amazing prizes! This is a great way for students to try something new, use their imagination, and supplement their distance learning experience.
  • Consider featuring this opportunity in your morning meeting, or during advisory this week

How Students Can Participate

Students can review the Week 1 challenge details here, and should submit their projects here. If they have any questions, they can reach out to project.create@scienceandtech.org

We’ll be sharing out the story that CBS is running tonight to launch this exciting contest, which will feature an interview with a Montview MS student who is already pumped to participate!

Thank you for helping me spread the excitement for Project: Create. In these unusual times, it is more essential than ever that we provide students joyful and timely opportunities to creatively expand their learning horizons.

All my best,

Bill
