Turn Out and Turn Up for DSST High School @ Noel

Written by Stefanie Gilary | 01/09/20

The Bulldogs at DSST Middle School @ Noel need your help! In just 18 short months, the founding class of Noel will be moving up to 9th grade. We promised our Noel families a 6-12 high quality education, and we intend to keep that promise. But we need your support as we ensure that DPS keeps their promise to the families of the Far Northeast to offer high quality middle and high school options.

Only one-third of Far Northeast high school students are attending a high-performing school this year, and we all know this must change. DSST: GVR has the largest waitlist in the city, meaning many students do not get matched with their top choice. In turn, many of them end up attending low-quality schools, or opt to leave the Far Northeast entirely. The community has been demanding for some time now a comprehensive high school AND a DSST @ Noel HS, and we support both of these efforts.

On January 23, we will be turning out and turning UP at the DPS Board Meeting, and we hope that you will join us. If you live in or work at one of our schools in the Far Northeast, or in close proximity, we would especially appreciate your support. We’re looking at you, Hornets, Raptors, and Dragons! 👀  Our Bulldogs need us- let’s show them some solidarity and the power of our greater community!

Why is your attendance and support at the board meeting so essential? You may remember last year we advocated for a DSST: Henry High School, which involved tremendous efforts and passion from our entire DSST community. And yet we ran into numerous obstacles, primarily, an unwillingness from the school board to even entertain serious conversations around a high school. It’s important that our voices are strongly heard, at every opportunity possible, to show the resounding community support that is truly impossible to ignore. We stand with our families and community.

We cannot do this important advocacy work without your help. Thank you for your much-needed support as we continue our mission in delivering a world-class education to all students.
