Update on DSST: Henry

Written by DSST Public Schools | 11/23/20

Dear DSST: Henry Community,

We hope you are all doing well and feeling healthy. It was great to see everyone who tuned in to the Henry Community Q&A session on Monday, where we elaborated on our recommendation to consolidate DSST: Henry with DSST: College View Middle School at the DSST: College View Campus. Thank you for spending time considering a consolidation of schools over the last week.

We wanted to inform you that yesterday evening, due to unsustainable declines in student enrollment, the DSST Board of Directors voted to proceed with consolidation of DSST: Henry Middle School with DSST: College View Middle School, at the College View campus. As we have previously communicated, we believe any DSST: Henry student who would like to attend DSST: College View Middle School will have a spot. Henry families will also have a priority in the DPS lottery for all DSST middle schools as well as other DPS middle schools in their neighborhood. You may know that DPS dictates the placements on center-based programs. We will be working with DPS to understand the future location of our center program, and will be communicating with our center program families directly in December.

I am very disappointed that we are here and I know that you share that disappointment with me. Henry is a special school community that deserved better. As we look ahead, I know that Henry students will be fully embraced as they join the College View community, and this will be the best thing for our students. I want to assure you that we’ll be with you every step of the way as we embark on this new chapter.
We will be hosting 2 optional drop-in sessions next week where families can come with any questions or concerns.

We will also host an optional “Meet and Greet” for Henry families to meet the School Director of DSST: College View Middle School. Spanish interpretation will be available.

For more information and resources about the transition, please visit our website.

Thank you for your patience and attention during this time of changes and transition. Our team looks forward to connecting with you during our optional drop-in sessions next week!
