DSST: Cedar High School named 2024 National Blue Ribbon School
We are thrilled to announce that the U.S. Department of Education has named DSST: Cedar High School a 2024 National Blue Ribbon School. This recognition places Cedar High School among the top schools in the country, celebrating its outstanding academic performance and commitment to closing achievement gaps.
This year, only four schools in Colorado and 356 schools nationwide received this prestigious award. Since 1984, only 15 schools in Denver Public Schools have earned this honor, and we are proud that three of those are DSST schools—DSST: Green Valley Ranch High School in 2014, DSST: Cedar Middle School in 2019, and now DSST: Cedar High School in 2024! As the No. 1 high school in Denver, Cedar High School’s commitment to academic excellence, innovative teaching, and strong community support is what sets it apart. This recognition in the Exemplary High Performing category reflects Cedar’s focus on rigorous instruction, data-driven practices, and creating a supportive environment where every student can thrive.
“Receiving this award for our middle school in 2019 was a really big deal. Now, Cedar is a campus of excellence in the national eye! I’m unbelievably proud,” said Elin Curry, School Director for Cedar. “We are exemplary not just because we serve some students well, but because we truly serve them all. I hope that we are a beacon of possibility for schools locally and nationally, and look forward to continuing to set the bar high.”
The U.S. Department of Education highlighted Cedar High School as a model of effective teaching and intentional collaboration. It’s a huge honor that celebrates the daily commitment of our students, educators, and families who work tirelessly to achieve excellence.
“This achievement stands as a testament to the outstanding leadership of School Director Elin Curry and her dedicated team, the engagement of Cedar families, and the hard work of our students,” said DSST CEO, Nella García Urban. “I am incredibly proud of the collective effort that has led to this success. Cheers to the Falcons!”
As a National Blue Ribbon School, Cedar High School will proudly display the award flag as a symbol of its leadership and dedication to education.
