As we kick off the 19-20 school year, I wanted to share some important information about the great benefits that we offer here at DSST Public Schools, particularly your 401K and the 5% gift that was recently deposited in your MassMutual account. 

If you have completed a full school year and returned to DSST for a new school year, you received 5% of your salary as a gift into your 401K. Your gift should have been reflected in your 401K account at the end of July. If you are a new team member, you are eligible to participate in our 401K plan, and put aside up to $19,000 of your salary, pre-tax. 

Many other employers offer a 401K “match”, which requires that employees put money in first, and the employer follows, and sometimes with only a small percentage of that contribution.  At DSST, this is a true gift— you do not need to make any contributions of your own to be eligible.  

We are also really proud to mention that employees are fully vested in their 401K savings immediately- many other places require employees to wait 3-5 years before they are fully vested in the employer’s contributions. We believe strongly in portability, which means that you can take that money with you, no matter how long you are employed with DSST.

This is one of the many ways that we aim to show our hard-working staff how much we appreciate their dedication to our students, families, and larger mission.
