Affordable Housing Opportunities for Educators

Posted by DSST Public Schools on 12/11/18

It’s no secret that housing in Denver is not getting any cheaper. However, the Home Office team is continuously on the lookout for affordable housing opportunities for our network. One of them is Landed, which you will be hearing more about soon, and another is the new Habitat Metro Denver project 43rd & Elizabeth. We are excited to share that they will be building 32 new homes in Elyria Swansea,  just 1.2 miles from the 40th and Colorado light rail station. DSST teachers are welcome to apply to become homeowners. Read on to learn more about how you can make one of these 3 or 4 bedroom duplexes yours!

How To Apply:

  • Review the program qualifications for homeownership on the Habitat website. This lists both Financial Requirements & General Requirements that need to be met.
  • Broadly speaking, a family’s gross income needs to be in the range of $50-$72K to qualify to purchase at 43rd & Elizabeth and pay the mortgage.  Check out the chart on the Program Qualifications page that helps explain income eligibility based on the size of the family. For example, at 43rd & Elizabeth, a family of three would need to make  around $54K-$64K annually to qualify for a 3 bedroom home.
  • If your family meets the requirements, attend an Information Session. The next session will be at Habitat’s office at 3245 Eliot St. on Tuesday, Dec 18th at 6:00pm. Registration is already full, but if you are interested in attending, email Gloria Vasquez at gvasquez@habitatmetrodenver.org
  • There will be another Information Session in mid-January posted on the Habitat website shortly. We are also working with school leaders to arrange short information sessions at your school where a Habitat team member will present and answer questions.
  • Please note that Habitat also has properties in other locations, including condos, that are less expensive and have lower income requirements.
  • Applications will open online on January 2nd
