At Our Core: Superintendent Search

Posted by DSST Public Schools on 08/31/18

As you likely already know, Tom Boasberg, Denver Public Schools’ Superintendent of nearly 10 years, will be stepping down October 19th. The search for the new Superintendent will be executed in three phases, with the goal of having a new leader selected later this fall.  We need your help in having our collective voices heard in this search.

The past 10 years have seen the opening of new schools (charter schools, innovation schools and traditional public schools) and most importantly, a growth in the overall performance of DPS students.  Although Denver still has monumental challenges and achievement gaps, throughout the last 10 years networks like DSST have been able to serve more of Denver’s students, and have been able to partner with DPS on important issues like facility allocation and enrollment.

We need our new superintendent to continue to support charter schools, innovation schools, parent choice, and key system levers like the School Performance Framework.  These are all key components of ensuring all students have access to a high quality school. The new superintendent will have a big impact on DSST’s operating conditions and success. We need a Superintendent who will put students first, and will recenter the district on students getting a great education and ensuring that bureaucracy is not getting in the way.  The vision of the Superintendent will inform how the district handles current and any future facilities, district resources, and enrollment policy. DSST has a lot at stake in this process.

With the “SuperSearch” in full swing, your voice is critical as a part of this conversation. Community Meetings and Public Comment sessions begin next week.  We highly encourage you to attend at least one session - details and rsvp form are below. There are forums across the city and there should a location that is very accessible to you. Next Tuesday and Wednesday forums will be held in the Southwest, a critical area for DSST to show support and let our voices be heard. Please help us ensure a Superintendent who will work to expand access to high quality schools that allow all students to have the college and career options that they deserve.

Reach out to Hillary Hoffman, Senior Manager of Advocacy, Recruitment and Family Engagement, if you have any questions.
