Celebrating DSST leadership during Black History Month

At DSST Public Schools, we are proud that our diverse Board of Directors reflects the communities we serve. This Black History Month, we are honored to highlight our Black-identifying board members, whose leadership, expertise, and dedication help guide our schools toward greater equity and opportunity.

Board Member Billy Brown

Billy Brown serves on our DSST Board of Directors. He is currently a Regional Sales Manager for Medtronic in their Cranial and Spinal Technologies. Billy has served as an Education Counselor with Denver Kids.  He is our Board’s Diversity Equity and Inclusion Committee Chair.

Board Member Dr. Brenda Allen

Dr. Brenda Allen is Professor Emerita of Communication and former Vice Chancellor for Diversity Equity and Inclusion at the University of Colorado Denver and the Anschutz Medical Campus. She serves on the DSST Board of Directors and has been instrumental in guiding our Board towards a vision of Inclusivity and Educational Equity. 

Board Member Mary Haynes

Mary Haynes is a DSST Board Member with more than three decades of experience in administration, college admission, program development, coaching and facilitation in the educational, nonprofit and philanthropic sectors, including 21 years at the Daniels Fund. Mary previously served as a mentor for the Circle of Latina Leadership and on the boards of Make a Chess Move, Metro Volunteers of Denver and Judi’s House.

Board Member Medford Moorer

Medford Moorer is our newest DSST Board Member. He serves as chief of staff and assistant den of strategic initiatives in the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences at University of Colorado Boulder. He is leading the implementation and tracking of college strategic planning efforts and supports critical strategic initiatives relating to diversity, equity, and inclusion

As we celebrate Black History Month, we honor the invaluable contributions of these leaders who are helping to shape a more inclusive and equitable future for our students. Their commitment to education, mentorship, and community impact inspires us, and we are grateful for their continued support. Together, we are building a brighter future for all.
