CG MS Student Council Visits the State Capitol

Posted by DSST Public Schools on 03/12/19

As an annual tradition for the past 3 years, Conservatory Green Middle School’s Student Council visited Colorado’s State Capitol building last month. Before getting a private tour of the opulent building, including a rare opportunity to visit the west-facing balcony reserved for members of Colorado’s legislative branch, students had the unique opportunity to have a round table discussion with Majority Leader, State Representative, Alec Garnett.

In his private office, students inquired about Garnett’s process of becoming a member of our state’s legislature, as well as his problem-solving ideas for the plethora of complex matters such as affordable housing, education, jobs and economy throughout our state and in Denver in particular. With Mr. Garnett’s informal conversational style, he appeared to be genuinely interested in listening and answering students’ questions with patience and respect. The students attending were impressed with this multi-faceted trip and spoke about it being an inspiration to continue their work as the student leadership of their school.
