Hi DSST! My name is Katy Flynn, and I was the recipient of the 2019 Curiosity Core Value Award. While there are SO many amazing organizations that encourage curiosity, I have selected Girls Inc.

Girls, as early as elementary school, tend to pigeonhole themselves into labels that help them make sense of a complicated world. Girls Inc. focuses on the "whole girl" and works to help girls develop relationships, to take risks, and to see their personal strengths. By providing opportunities for new experiences in a supportive, girls-only environment that allows for exploration, Girls Inc. is fostering the possibility for curiosity in the strong women of tomorrow. At DSST, we all see the most amazing girls come through our schools, many of who would be even stronger and better prepared for the world with an additional support system. I see Girls Inc. as an organization that works to supplement the work we're doing, as a way for Denver girls to build a stronger and more widespread network that will help them feel secure enough to push boundaries, to become the amazing people they were born to be.
