Posted by Lara Thomas on 09/25/19

On Friday September 20th, DSST: Montview HS joined thousands of other schools around the country to participate in the youth Climate Strike.

The Climate Strike is an international youth movement led by 16 year old Greta Thunberg from Sweden (she just arrived in the USA from Europe by a solar powered ship). The movement demands an end to the reliance on fossil fuels and promote awareness and action around the issue of climate change.

Prior to this event, the DSST: Montview Green Team (Environmental Club) and other impassioned students met with the school’s administration to schedule a 30 minute demonstration here on campus for students that could not go downtown to demonstrate and also to determine how students could demonstrate in a way that was safe and orderly for the school attendance policies.

Green Team hosted a sign-making party to inspire creativity and get materials ready for the event.

Montview seniors also led a morning meeting explaining the significance of the Strike and how to stay involved with trips and clubs on campus after today’s demonstration.

Montview Green Team meets bi-weekly, and will be attending Colorado Green Schools Summit in November and are traveling to Germany and Switzerland this summer to study renewable technologies and sustainable agriculture.
