E-S Overview:
The audience for this guide is the amazing teaching staff at DSST. This guide is intended to answer employment-related questions raised by teachers regarding the launch of E-School. If you have a question not listed below or need individual support please reach out to your manager and/or humanresources@scienceandtech.org.

1. Are there any changes to Spring Break for DSST team members who teach in our Denver schools (not AST)?There has been no change to Spring Break for instructional staff. Some non-instructional team members are working in order to support the launch of E-School. We encourage all team members to take a break from work and re-charge as we prepare for the launch of E-School TLI on April 6th.
For Non-Instructional Staff (working year round), Home Office and E-School Teacher Content Leaders:
All DSST staff are encouraged to use Spring Break as a time to focus on your personal wellness during this challenging time. There is no expectation that you should spend your time working. However, given these unique circumstances, some of you have asked about working through Spring Break and using your time off later. We understand—and want to be as flexible as possible. Toward that end, DSST Public Schools will be closed on Monday and Tuesday. Similar to our summer closure, we want to fully ensure that team members have at least a couple days of downtime. If you choose to work, please start by submitting your request to work over Spring Break to your School Director. If approved, team members can work any of the remaining days (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday) and “bank” those days for later use (anytime during the 20-21 school year).
All team members including e-school teacher content leaders and Home Office staff should submit a request in Workday for 3 days off during the 20-21 SY using the code “closure swap,” which will be approved by Managers. These requests must be submitted by EOD 4/3 but can be rescheduled if future plans change.
2. Will teachers be able to get substitute coverage for time-off & leave requests?
During E-School we will do an internal coverage process only. No external subs will be hired due to training & technology constraints. Schools will designate a process for assigning internal coverage. Teachers will be compensated for internal coverage in alignment with DSST’s hourly compensation policy of $25 an hour. Teachers must follow school systems for tracking coverage in order to receive compensation.
3. What if I can’t meet the revised work expectations for E-School?
Anyone with concerns related to meeting the work expectations should speak with their manager about the challenges they are facing.
4. Can I call in sick?
Yes, if you cannot meet the work expectations due to illness, you should notify your school leader in accordance with your school’s time-off procedures and submit a sick-day on Workday.
5. What if I develop flu-like symptoms after remote learning starts and I'm out of sick time?If you need additional sick time-off and have flu like symptoms please contact the Talent Operations team by e-mailing HumanResources@scienceandtech.org.
6. Can I still take personal time-off?
Team members can submit time-off requests in Workday. Team members are expected to request time-off in accordance with their School Director’s time-off procedures including providing sufficient notice for personal time-off requests (see Handbook Guidance on Personal Time-Off in section 7.3). Here is the guide for using Workday to enter time-off requests:
How-To Guide for Submitting Time-off Requests in Workday
7. What are the expectations for team members returning from FMLA?
Team Members returning from FMLA should be in communication with their manager about their return to work.
8. How will we respond if a teacher is no-call/ no-show during their assigned time?Per DSST’s Handbook (see section 5.3) not reporting to work and not calling to report the absence is a no-call/no-show and is a serious matter which may lead to disciplinary action. If team members are experiencing challenges with technology they should follow the procedures laid out by their school’s technology lead.
9. Does this impact the timing of summer break? No change at this time.
10. Will the work I do during E-school count towards my performance for the year? The CDE announced earlier this month that all state testing has been “paused.” We know this raises questions as these tests are a critical element of TCP. The Home Office Human Capital team is working on a solution. A new compensation plan will be communicated to teachers no later than April 30.
11. How should I respond if a student expresses concerns about a family member or themselves with COVID-19 symptoms.Forward emails/concerns to the COVID helpdesk at covid19@scienceandtech.org. Also please provide this site as a resource to your students and families: https://info.dsstpublicschools.org/familyresourcescovid
At this time, there have been no confirmed cases of COVID-19 among our students or staff.
12. Am I still eligible for stipend money related to school work (i.e house leader, etc.)DSST paid all stipends for work completed through March. Going forward, all stipends will be evaluated on a case by case basis. If you have questions, please consult your School Director.
13. What if I see something inappropriate happen on a student/coworker's screen while in meetings or teaching? Please raise with your school leadership team using the normal channels.
