Intersectional Affinity Groups

Posted by DSST Public Schools on 01/28/20

Hi all!

We heard and listened to your feedback to have other identity markers included in affinity groups, so our intersectional affinity groups will be kicking off on Tuesday, February 18th! These affinity groups will use non-race-based identities to create groups and form cross-network relationships.

We will alternate affinity groups by month:

February: Intersectional

March: Race-based

April: Intersectional

May: Race-based

Here is a current proposed list of groups (subject to change if we have leaders for all groups):

  • LGBTQIA+
  • Multi-race/multi-ethnicity
  • Women
  • Veterans & Loved Ones
  • Neurodiversity, Mental Health, & All Things Ability
  • First-gen/second-gen immigrants
  • … Others you can propose/want to lead!

If you are interested in attending OR leading, please sign up at this form here.

We need leaders & suggestions for these groups & more - we have many talented leaders in race-based affinity groups, but would love your leadership in leading these new ones! If you are interested, please indicate on the form that you are interested, then answer the following questions (in less than 300 words) and email it to aaron.griffen@scienceandtech.org by 2/4. The first affinity group planning meeting will be on Tuesday, February 11th.
