Infusion 2021: Know Before You Go
We are extremely excited to kick off the new school year with you at our live all-staff Infusion event this Friday, August 6, at 8 am. This year’s event will be live but take place virtually - although many schools are having a “watch party” with their team so be sure to check with your leadership on how your team is planning on watching. Pride and STEM: Barriers left unbroken
In 1958, the National Defense and Education Act (NDEA) was signed, which opened the way for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) to become a main focus of schooling in both K-12 and higher education. The NDEA was in response to the launch of the Russian satellite, Sputnik in 1957. With this launch, the space race began. The United States and Russia were already steeped into the cold war between the two countries. Being the first to reach to the moon became a rallying cry as cemented by John F. Kennedy’s moon speech:

DSST Celebrates Pride Month
When one hears, reads or thinks of the word PRIDE. What comes to mind? Is it pride in our country, pride in ourselves, pride in our community, or simply an acknowledgment of the joy, resilience and triumphs of one’s culture and lived experiences? PRIDE has multiple meanings for multiple people. However, PRIDE for our family, students, and colleagues who are members of the LGBTQIA+ community, bears another meaning. This meaning is beyond the casual rainbow flag waving in June for PRIDE Month, the solidarity stickers and shirts sold as a corporate marketing campaign during PRIDE parades. PRIDE has its roots, beginnings, and daily journey through the human condition in civil rights, legal rights, constitutional rights, and human rights. The right to simply exist as WE are regardless of gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, or social and economic status. PRIDE is about mattering.

Henry Students Celebrate at the End of Year Carnival!

DSST: Cole Middle School Hosts Annual ColeChella
Last Thursday evening, May 27, the Dragons at Cole Middle School hosted their annual ColeChella end-of-year concert for their entire community! The lively student performances included R&B, Hip-Hop, Pop-Rock, Nortena, and Drumline Ensembles. The event included cameos from musicians from Denver who played along with many of the ensembles.
