Join us for Affinity Groups on Thursday, November 12!
Come join us at this month’s Affinity Groups! Affinity Groups are a member led space that provides a unique opportunity to build a cross-campus community. They are an intentionally safe space for staff to come together with people who have the same identity (race, gender, sexual orientation, social class, ability, family structure).

Election Celebrations
The election season is not over, and tensions remain high across the country. As we write this at 4pm on Thursday, we still do not have a confirmed victor in the Presidential race. However, we’d be remiss to not mention the numerous developments over this past week that showed civic engagement in our community is at an all time high, and election results that are critical for the future of education funding.
Pet of the Week: Luna Simone
It’s been too long since a fluffy friend has graced our Helix pages, and these days especially, we need them more than ever. That’s why we’re particularly excited to feature Brittnee Merritt, Manager of Student Recruitment (and good friend of the blog) and her brand new kitten named Luna Simone!
Dispatch from the 2020 Polls!
Yesterday and today, I’ve been stationed at the Barnum Recreation Center VSPC (Voting Service Polling Center) as an election support judge and it has been a really wonderful experience thus far! All of my fellow poll workers are passionate and energetic about the election process and hoping to contribute in whatever way they can to this crucial election cycle, as was my motivation to sign up this year. Typically, the average age of a poll worker is 65, so this year it was especially important for a younger demographic to work the election due to COVID health risks.
Post-Election Resources
There’s no getting around it- this has been an election season we’ll all remember. And while anxiety is high for many of us, we can still make room for civil discourse and respectfully explore different perspectives. No matter what the results are, we’ve compiled below some resources to leverage in your virtual classroom! We hope you will find these helpful as we navigate these remarkable times!
