Pet of the Week: Luna Simone

Posted by DSST Public Schools on 11/05/20

It’s been too long since a fluffy friend has graced our Helix pages, and these days especially, we need them more than ever. That’s why we’re particularly excited to feature Brittnee Merritt, Manager of Student Recruitment (and good friend of the blog) and her brand new kitten named Luna Simone!

Brittnee works hard to make sure that all of our schools are enrolled, in turn securing the critical funding that keeps our schools open. You may already know her from door knocking efforts, student recruitment special events, and school fairs!

Her beloved kitten, Luna Simone, is a 7 month tortoise haired tabby feline that navigates the world with lots of sass and class! Luna joined the Merritt household less than a month ago from Happy Cats Haven - a cat shelter in Manitou Springs. Still adjusting to her new home, she is still exploring yummy human foods to learn more about and enjoy. She has already discovered tuna and she’s absolutely crazy about it!

Luna is a simple kitty - she loves to play with her toy mice as well as any kind of dangling toy that she can do acrobatic flips to try to capture. One of her favorite toys that she loves to play with is a laser light - she loves to run around in circles and circles while playing “capture the light”!

Beyond playing, she is a very curious kitty that wants to understand the world around her,  even if that means making a few little messes for her owner! She is also partial to cuddles - especially if it means cuddling on her owner while she works during the day. (Luna often makes guest appearances on Teams calls.)

The world can be a very scary place, especially for a former shelter cat, so Luna is more of an indoor cat than an outdoor one.

“I’m perfectly fine right here thank you very much”

Even though this might seem very limiting, keeping her indoors keeps her safe from all the wonders of the world, plus it is good for the environment!

There’s no place like home!

Luna loves to meet new people (pets are still to be questioned) and usually greets them with a happy purr and attempts to cuddle with them to give her hello!

"Welcome to my home! Is that tuna you've brought for me?!"

When she is not making new friends, she is usually zooming around the house or staring out the window to watch the squirrels play in the trees. At night when she is feeling particularly mischievous, she likes to sneak onto the window sill before pouncing onto her owner’s face - there is still progress to be made on distinguishing faces from toys!
