Last week was Spring break for all of our campuses in Denver. From a trip to Spain to a leadership conference, here are some of the highlights from some of our schools.
DSST: Byers High School - Spain Trip
"After waiting for more than a year due to COVID-cancellation, the Byers Spring Break trip to Spain finally happened. Fifty-eight students and 11 chaperones traveled from Madrid to Málaga, exploring the country's rich history, culture, and language." - Brock Schardin, Byers Spanish teacher
Here are what some of the students had to say:
"My favorite part of going to Spain was being able to broaden the way I see the world; also seeing monkeys out side of a zoo and being able to eat somewhere besides fast food restaurants when eating out. I noticed that a lot of the food isn’t as processed as it is in America. Going to Spain made me realize how boring my life is in America and that life doesn’t wait in anyone and neither should I. So vale vale!!"
"Going on a trip with so many amazing people, beyond those I was previously friends with was a lot of fun; making new friends and sharing such a unique experience with them has helped build bonds that I know will last past the end of high school."
DSST: Byers High School - DC Trip
"Most of the kids wanted to stay longer and asked if they could go again next year. We are already planning for next year and taking a new group of tenth graders." - Bailey Burkhardt, Byers Community Engagement Manager
DSST: College View Middle School - DC Trip
"We had so much fun, and we learned more than we thought we would! Our favorite activity throughout the entire trip was walking around the national mall. We got to do that a couple of times while we were in town, and when you’re there, you really get to soak in what it means to be in the nation’s capital. Our kids were also fantastic travelers, I was so impressed! By the time the trip was coming to a close, we were true veterans. I’d take that group anywhere!" - Roberto Castanzo, CV middle school Athletics and Activities Director
DSST: Conservatory Green High School and Byers High School - Leadership and ethics seminar
"Over break some juniors from CG and Byers went to a West Point Leadership and Ethics seminar where we learned about how to be outstanding leaders. We also discussed and worked with students from across the state discussing the ethics in decision making and how often leaders are faced with challenging decisions." - Valerie Wilkinson, CG Campus Director Of College Success
"It was a good experience to talk with peers about ethical questions and ideas I grapple with and think about as a teen." Ben Eggers, student
"It validated lots of ideas that I have thought about and wondered. I also enjoyed talking to other Juniors from across the state and seeing how similar we all are." - Maya Hebert, student
