Big dogs are having a moment on Pet of the Week lately, including some young but rapidly growing pets like Ziggy the Bernese Mountain Dog and Duke the Bernedoodle! This week, we’re honored to feature another big guy: Frank, a former foster pet who schemed his way into a permanent residence at Emily Lafferandre’s home.
The 74: One after another, like a relentless set of dominoes falling, states closed their schools as the pandemic swept across the nation last March. For America’s students and their families, so much has changed and been lost, but somehow also found in the last 52 weeks. Students learned to live without in-person classes, sports, proms, friends and teachers — and to live with remote classes on laptops, in quarantine.
Mentor teachers play an important role at DSST by supporting the growth and development of our new teachers. From mentoring DSST Apprentice Teachers or Student Teachers to hosting part time Field Placement Interns or EnCorps Fellows, our DSST Mentor Teachers help to ensure we have pipelines of talented and diverse first year teachers for our school communities.
In honor of Women’s History Month, we asked- Who is Your Shero? This week, we’re highlighting some of the influential women who have made a difference in our own lives, and to society at large. Read on as we highlight some favorites elevated by people across the network, along with book recommendations, podcasts, and more!
I hope you are all gearing up for or just finished a relaxing spring break! Since my last message I know many of you have had a chance to get the COVID-19 vaccine and many of you are considered now fully vaccinated, which is incredibly exciting!
On Sunday, March 21, the Wolves at College View High School hosted a vaccine clinic in partnership with the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment (CDPHE), delivering 202 vaccines to local community members in just one day!
Last week, we had the pleasure of meeting cuddly Duke the Bernedoodle, which was a nice way to transition us into this week’s feted pet, Ziggy, a young Bernese Mountain Dog.
This week, we continue to celebrate Women’s History Month and are excited to take the opportunity to elevate just a few key women who have made big waves in the male-dominated field of STEM. This post features notable scientists that were featured in Byers’ Women in STEM Project. Byers students learned about these key leaders and then presented on them! We still want to hear from you- who are the notable women that have inspired you? Share your shero here!
Over the past couple months, it’s been so much fun to spotlight and recognize the amazing staff who work in our Center Programs across the network. This week, we’re closing out this series with the awesome staff who work at the Falcon’s Nest of Byers! Get to know Alex Bruce, Mark Hyams, Jason Tidwell, Nate Avis, Evan Constan, and Debbie Jordan.
