Everyone loves a story about true friendship, whether it’s animals or people. Fortunately for us, this one has both!
From the breweries to the hiking trails, it often seems that dogs run the show in Denver. However, it’s been famously asserted that cats rule and dogs drool. Babs and Pippin would likely agree!
Thanksgiving may be over, but we’re never done being grateful for the amazing staff across our network. This week, the Super Staff Spotlight shines on Alex Haserodt-Arnold, who teaches 7th grade science at College View Middle School.
Let’s face it- public education is tough and the planet is on fire. But nothing brightens up our days like a stiff drink the love of a cherished pet. That’s why we thought it was more important than ever to start a new series- Pet of the Week! We’ll be kicking off the next few editions with some Home Office members who have generously shared the joy that their beloved pets bring to their lives, every day.
Our entire network is full of committed educators. However, not all of them have driven 1.5 hours each way, every day, from Colorado Springs (until his recent move to Castle Rock) to teach at DSST: Cole HS like Cole Hensley.
Leslie Velasco is a 9th grade physics teacher at DSST: Green Valley Ranch High School. Graduate of DSST: Montview, Leslie has started her first year of teaching with the hopes of inspiring students, just like her DSST teachers inspired her. She is off to a great start, and it has not gone unnoticed! Colleagues are impressed at how well she is doing- you would never know that Leslie is a first year teacher when you are in her classroom.
So you’re registered to vote and received your ballot in the mail, but perhaps you’re still not convinced on why this election is so important. This year, there are three of seven board seats up for election. These three new school board members will serve for the next 4 years, and their impact on the district will be crucial. If you haven’t already dropped your ballot off and wondering why you should bother filling it out, we wanted to share some quick facts about what the DPS Board of Education actually does, and why your vote this election is so very important.
Our network is full of dedicated and talented educators who contribute in unique ways to their school culture and most importantly, the lives of their students. That’s why we’re introducing a new series that highlights the magic that our staff members bring to our network every day. We’ll be sharing great ideas and celebrating the profound impact DSST educators have made on their students’ lifelong learning journey.
October is not just spooky season- it’s College & Career Success Month! And while a track record of 100% of seniors solidifying post secondary plans doesn’t happen in just one month’s time, there has certainly been a flurry of October initiatives to get students ready for their next step. We are excited to share the innovative strategies that College Success teams across the network have been implementing this year!
