Higher education is critical. By 2020, 65% of jobs will require some sort of education beyond high school. And college graduates end up earning nearly $1 million more than a high school graduate over their lifetime. Those with a college degree are also healthier, more likely to vote, and more engaged in their community. BUT starting college is not enough. Half of the students who enroll don’t graduate, and that is a problem the next Higher Education Act should address.
DENVER -- A study conducted by A Plus Colorado found big disparities among Colorado High Schools when it comes to sending students to top colleges in the U.S.
Colorado’s General Assembly is just about at the halfway mark, but most major education legislation is still under consideration.
Sometimes an age gap is overrated. That certainly appears to be the case for the boys basketball team at DSST: Stapleton.
We all know that education funding in Colorado has been a challenge for years, and while that hasn’t stopped us from delivering a world-class education to all of our students, we continue to advocate for much-needed change. From salaries to curricular resources to extracurriculars, less funding means more hard choices and possible trade-offs for both our schools and the Home Office. You may have already been involved in the many different advocacy efforts our network has participated in, or perhaps you are already engaged with the community in another capacity. Today we share some new ways that you can get involved to push our legislators to vote for additional funding so that our educators and students have the resources that they need.
Denver’s first teacher strike in 25 years marks a turning point in Colorado, and possibly the nation’s efforts to reform public education.
This Saturday, March 2nd, DSST is hosting Parent Leader Institute! DSST hopes to engage parents from across the network in a one-day training with Innovate, a national leader in community organizing. Our goal is to build leadership skills and leverage the power of community organizing to make transformational change for students in our community.
Last Tuesday, DSST launched our first network-wide race based Affinity Groups! Over 40 staff members braved a snowy evening to come together at Cole Middle School and spend meaningful time sharing honest dialogue and reflection. Together we are excited to continue our personal and collective identity journeys and equity work.
