Before COVID put an end to large gatherings, community members from the Far Northeast, including students, families, and staff, were turning out by the hundreds to show their support for a DSST Noel High School. And yet the Bulldogs at Noel still do not have a clear path to a high school.
Being a Caregiver and a fully committed member of the DSST network truly takes a village to do well. Rosita Mallo is a testament to these incredible efforts and dedication as she ensures students have opportunities for remarkable internships across the nation, all while maintaining wellness as she cares for her family.
While we have begun the school year remotely, with empty classrooms and hallways across the network, the work of our school operations team has not gotten any simpler. From coordinating the checkout of nearly 7,000 laptops, to helping ensure that 100% of our students have access to the internet, the Ops team has had their work cut out for them! This week, we’re highlighting Greg Avedikian, Manager of School Operations, and his two dogs Stella and Bodie. Greg is the operations partner for Aurora Science & Tech, College View MS & HS, and Henry MS, and works to help ensure the Front Office teams at those campuses have what they need to make their schools run smoothly, while also planning and coordinating capital construction and maintenance projects with our DPS and APS partners.
As we close out the first week of school, a little bit of “cattitude” may be just what the doctor ordered. That’s why we are delighted to share Senior Manager of Leadership Development Theresa Loth’s beloved Snarles Barkley.
You may have noticed a lot of buzz around Flyer and Google Classroom Calendars leading up to and through this first week of school. Not only is Flyer a great tool for communicating with families through broadcast messages and translated two way chats, but there are additional features that make the app a one stop shop for families. One of those features is a calendar integration with Google Classroom calendars. By integrating your Google Classroom calendar ID into your corresponding Flyer groups, any assignment you post on Google Classroom will populate on the Flyer calendar for verified families on the app. When all teachers integrate their calendars, families have a complete picture of all assignments, across all classes, that their students have coming up, all in one place!

This week, we shared with families across the network the DSST E-School Family Guidebook. This Guidebook (also available in Spanish) lives on our 20-21 School Year website, where families are able to find the latest updates from our network, as well as the E-School page on the Helix, which continues to be updated as more resources are available.
Are you ready for the First Day of School? We know it will be unlike any other, and yet despite the differences and the challenges, we know this team will make it nothing less than extraordinary for students across our network.
