DENVER, Colorado — Two months ago, sixth-grade reading teacher Lindsay Agbalokwu went to work as usual.
The middle schoolers at DSST: Henry have new ways to get active thanks to a big grant from DPS! After jumping through some hoops, including a total grant re-write, 8th Grade Dean of Students Marcus Pumphrey won $20,000 that will be put towards expanding after-school physical fitness beyond their current athletics offerings. Every day beginning November 18, around 50 students in the pilot program will participate in new pursuits that will get them moving. This will include a variety of activities including martial arts, rock climbing, or hiking. This grant is giving students, staff and the community an opportunity to connect on a level that would not be otherwise possible, as partnerships with community members, local colleges and universities, sporting retailers, and more are already in the works!
As the weather gets colder and holiday season approaches, it’s time to recognize those superstars who show what it truly means to live our core values. The six core values are woven into everything we do at DSST. Core Value Awards are the highest honor a DSST member can receive in our work to deliver a world-class education to our students. These exemplary people are recognized at the Holiday party every December with a speech from a colleague as well as a gift.

Leslie Velasco is a 9th grade physics teacher at DSST: Green Valley Ranch High School. Graduate of DSST: Montview, Leslie has started her first year of teaching with the hopes of inspiring students, just like her DSST teachers inspired her. She is off to a great start, and it has not gone unnoticed! Colleagues are impressed at how well she is doing- you would never know that Leslie is a first year teacher when you are in her classroom.
We’re happy to announce that we will no longer use IVisions for reimbursement requests. Starting October 31, everyone should submit reimbursement requests through QuickBase.
So you’re registered to vote and received your ballot in the mail, but perhaps you’re still not convinced on why this election is so important. This year, there are three of seven board seats up for election. These three new school board members will serve for the next 4 years, and their impact on the district will be crucial. If you haven’t already dropped your ballot off and wondering why you should bother filling it out, we wanted to share some quick facts about what the DPS Board of Education actually does, and why your vote this election is so very important.
